I grew up in the 70’s and 80’s on the SAD diet, the standard Australian Diet of cereal, sandwiches then meat and 3 veg for dinner. I played a lot of sport so ate whatever I wanted and didn’t think much of it. I have a really sweet tooth so enjoyed a cream donut from the tuck shop as often as I could pinch money out of mum’s purse!
When I hit my 20’s in the late 1980's, the age of convenience, pre-packaged, processed foods was in full swing. I became a gym junkie (how good was the "leggings and g-string leotard" look!) and totally bought into the low fat, high carb paradigm which we now know is crap perpetuated by the Big Food Industry! Low fat everything, margarine not butter and avoiding fat like the plague. I was always fighting a extra few kilos but didn’t let that slow me down from burning the candle at both ends, drinking, smoking and eating processed shite!
20 years of this kind of reckless lifestyle brought it’s own challenges including Esophageal Candida, severe Eczema, irritable bowels and in my 40's, development of a constant underlying level of anxiety.
Nearly four years ago I read David Gillespie’s book The Sweet Poison Quit Plan and it changed my life. Once I quit sugar I became fascinated with the role nutrition plays in our lives so I studied to become a health coach through IIN. I've been Paleo, LCHF, Keto and have practised plenty of intermittent fasting. I believe there is no one "correct" way of eating. Whether you follow a paleo, vegan or LCHF way of eating (woe), being healthy is totally dependent on ditching the processed junk our food supply is filled with and going back to a simple, nutrient-dense, real food way of eating which is full of leafy greens, healthy fats like avocado, butter and organic, grass-fed meat and devoid of refined, processed carbohydrates, sugar and inflammatory hydrogenised seed and vegetable oils.
I am passionate about helping people make the changes needed to discover joyful living instead of the common daily struggle many women face!
